Laura is an associate lawyer at Blaies & Hightower who concentrates on cases ranging from personal injury, wrongful death and survival actions to commercial litigation to eminent domain. Before joining Blaies & Hightower she was a litigation associate at Brown Pruitt Peterson & Wambsganss. Laura has been recognized as a Texas Rising Star by Law and Politics Magazine (2008, 2009).

Laura’s skills were on display a few years ago when she represented a small plumbing business. The business was being sued by a quasi-governmental agency with enormous power and immense resources to spend on the case. In fact, the agency sued the plumbing company for well beyond the company’s insurance limits. Laura carefully reviewed every facet of the case. In particular, she became an expert on the agency and identified several weaknesses in their case. During the first round of depositions, Laura deposed one of the leading figures from the agency. She specifically questioned the executive about management contracts and government accounting practices. The executive was caught off guard by these questions and was forced to make several key concessions that helped the plumbers’ case. After the first round of depositions ended, the governmental agency decided to settle the case for not only less than it was asking for, but less than the insurance limits.

Laura graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in Spanish and Political Science in 1999 and then graduated from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in 2003. Fluent in Spanish, she frequently interviews and prepares Spanish-speaking clients for depositions. She is licensed to practice in Texas State Courts as well as the United States District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas.
