Grant Blaies

What makes for a successful case? “When you get the right result and the client is satisfied,” answers Grant Blaies. “That is what we strive for in every case for every client.”

Grant is one of the three founding partners at Blaies and Hightower. He concentrates his practice in business and commercial litigation and appellate law. His litigation practice encompasses a wide range of areas, including oil and gas litigation, governmental liability, transportation litigation, and construction and real estate litigation. He has substantial experience in trial and appellate practice before both state and federal courts in Texas.

Grant is AV rated and has been recognized as a Top Attorney in Tarrant County by the Fort Worth Magazine (2002, 2003, 2004, 2007), as well as a Texas Super Lawyer Rising Star by Law and Politics Magazine (2005, 2007, 2008). He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Tarrant County Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, Bar Association of the Fifth Circuit and the Texas Association of Defense Counsel. In addition to being licensed to practice in Texas state courts, Grant is licensed in the following federal courts: The United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for Fifth Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas.

Grant’s skills as a lawyer were tested recently when he was able to obtain a judgment in favor of his client against a major gas producer. Grant’s client, a local property owner, had purchased several hundred acres of land subject to an old gas lease and well that had been on the property for years. When the lease expired, Grant’s clients attempted to terminate the lease and sign a new lease with another company. However, the gas company refused, contending the existing gas well on the property was a productive well and that the old lease remained in full force and effect. Grant ultimately prevailed at trial and the court entered a judgment declaring the old lease had terminated. After securing that judgment, Grant was able to negotiate a new lease with terms favorable to his clients.

Grant attended Baylor University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in business administration, and his law degree, cum laude, from Baylor University School of Law. In law school, he served on the Baylor Law Review and was a member of Phi Delta Phi and the Order of Barristers. After graduating, Grant served as a law clerk to the Honorable Raul A. Gonzalez on the Supreme Court of Texas, and then went to work for a large firm in Dallas, practicing complex commercial litigation.

“At this firm, we are not just trial lawyers, but counselors,” Grant says. “We strive to build, foster and maintain a relationship with the client. That’s what we do.”
