Our History

More than a decade ago in the heart of downtown Fort Worth, Blaies & Hightower opened its doors for business. Today, the firm has an established reputation for successfully guiding clients through high-stakes commercial and serious injury or death litigation. In between, a lot of firm history has been written.
Since 1997, the Blaies & Hightower attorneys have operated from the premise that they practice law best when they serve the client first. Having lawyers skilled in the law paired together with colleagues who thrive in the courtroom before a judge and jury has provided a sound foundation for the firm. Added to the mix are counselors with business acumen rarely found in the legal profession. This combination ensures the client is served best, from every angle.
Legal scholars and trial court veterans with business savvy are what the founding partners searched for in forming their team of lawyers. They succeeded in finding what they wanted. Today, they continue to build their legal stable using the same blueprint so each client benefits from Blaies & Hightower’s understanding of the science of the law and the art of the practice.
The lawyers of Blaies & Hightower practiced first at the large, prestigious law firms that seemingly always occupy the highest floors in tall buildings. “Many of us went from Law Review, to Federal Appeals and State Supreme Court Clerkships, to representing clients in the courtroom” says firm co-founder Grant Blaies. “We are shaped by these experiences and are better lawyers because of them. The firm began with a desire to be the best at understanding the law, arguing the law as it applies to the facts of our client’s case, and always grasping the business reality for the client. It continues to be the perfect combination for those that entrust us with their well-being and their future.”
The firm’s history reveals its skills. Their roster of client success includes many complex, precedent-setting cases in state, federal and appellate courtrooms. Just recently, the firm has prevailed in cases regarding complex intellectual property questions involving aviation software, an important copyright infringement dispute, the standing of property owners in a precedent setting natural gas exploration issue, and the firm prevailed for a family that lost a working father in a wrongful death suit involving multiple defendants.
Yes, Blaies & Hightower specializes in high-stakes litigation, but the firm is ever mindful of the boardroom. “We’re trained lawyers,” firm co-founder Greg Blaies explains, “but we’re businessmen at heart. We appreciate the unusual challenges of business and the incomparable legal needs of business leaders.”
Many of the firm’s clients first pursued representation when litigation was at hand. Once resolution was secured, the clients continued their relationship with Blaies & Hightower. According to firm co-founder Wes Hightower, many companies realize good legal representation can preclude future litigation. “Because we understand business and the practical aspects of the law, our value to the client is magnified. Many of our clients today started years ago with us in the courtroom. Now, we counsel them on ways to stay out of the courtroom.”
The Blaies & Hightower story is one of client success based on a simple philosophy that says pairing attorneys who possess a sharp, scholarly understanding of the law, with lawyers who live for advocating in the courtroom is the perfect combination. Add a real-world, practical understanding of business and commerce, and the result is a winning combination.
